Less than 100,000 miles was on this transmission. The owner of the van complain of the transmission was making a whining noise. He set up an appointment to have me take look at it for him. The yearly 4r70 (4r70w) had some issue with a space bearing going bad at the rear end of the transmission.

after taking the truck on a test drive I concluded that the torque converter  was the cause of the noise. The noise was only present when you place the van into drive or reverse, and would stop after speeding over 45 mph. There was no noise present in park or neutral.

To make sure that I did not waste any time I open and inspected the transmission and all was good. The only thing it could be was the torque converter.

Install a new torqu converter and the noise was gone.
